Subject: hi from azaleas Date: Mon, 7 Apr 1997 18:17:45 -0400 (EDT) From: Sally Greene To: Sarah L Greene Momma, as I just wrote you the old fashioned way, wish you could see our yard. The azaleas are coming on in a staggered sequence, the back yard pinks first more or less and the front yard whites (taller than I am all of them) just getting started; and one area outside the sunroom that is a riot of salmon and fuscia mixing together. The azaleas outside our bedroom window are brilliant hot pink. Does your garden club ever do flower show competitions anymore, I mean flower arrangements like they used to? Or is that a highly civilized art that died out with the two career family. I remember how beautiful the houses looked, the Sara Kennedy's, etc. What were the rules? Did the flowers have to come form your own garden? Who were the judges? Did you have any training or did you just have to intuit the "center of interest"? Paul is on his way to California for a conference and won't be back till Sunday. So I need to be tending to Tucker. Sorry to hear that Stephens is in a bad way. That doesn't seem right, really. Surely there is a need for it. Tucker is watching Put Down the Duckie and it's at the Barbara Walters cameo appearance; which reminds me, did you see that Alan Greenspan married Andrea Mitchell, or whatever her name is, the news media person, after 12 years of courtship (she's 50 and he's 72 which means she's been going out with him since she was 38 and he was 50), and that one of his former girlfriends was Barbara Walters? She's more his age I would think! *********************************************************************** Sally Greene Visiting Scholar UNC-Chapel Hill "Loopholes, just looking for loopholes." --W.C.
