Our Mission
"A Forum for issues relevant to managers in
higher education & for supportive interactions among
our members." A need for management training
opportunities was also identified, leading to
Interaction Management and establishment of a University
training department within Human
Resources.
UMA goals include expanding University
support for training and finding ways to recognize
university employees. Originally, UMA created and
coordinated the annual Employee Appreciation Fair, over
5,000 employees attended annually. UMA benefits all
campus managers by this being a voice for change on
issues of widespread importance.

Organization:
The University Managers Association (UMA)
was started in 1983 as a result of the first
University Management Development Program classes, when
participants met with several UNC managers to plan
continued networking. A steering committee was formed
from this group and the first UMA meeting was held
September 14, 1983.
