Subject: more birthday Date: Sun, 20 Oct 1996 22:33:07 -0400 (EDT) From: Sally Greene To: Sarah Greene MOmma, Paul is Chapel HIll and he had dinner with his search committee tonight; I've heard from him once. I'm on my way to bed but wanted to tell you about all the CDs Paul got me for my birthday: the new Michelle Shocked, which has as a last cut a song about leaving that sorry old East Texas town; a recording of Billy Strayhorn playing his own works, the only solo album he ever did as it turns out, which accompanied a copy of the new biography of him which I wanted; a new George Winston recording of the music of the man who wrote the piano music for all the Charlie Brown specials, which I wanted after I heard about it on NPR; and one by pianist Mose Allison and some others including Van Morrison, which I didn't know I wanted (Paul and I saw Allison in Carrboro a few years ago). And we had a nice dinner last night, not officially a birthday dinner, just an invitation to dinner at the home of Jerome McGann and his wife (with one other couple, the English professor from Henderson and his wife who is also from there, the ones we stayed with when house-hunting last year). That was all lovely. But it is really feeling like winter now! I might take some or all of my birthday money and buy a warm jacket, although I also could use a new dress coat. Last year I bought a three-quarter-length riding coat with hood at the Talbott's sale, which is OK but not all the time. But now, to bed. ************************************************************************** Sally Greene Department of English School of Law University of Virginia "Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition." --Timothy Leary
