Report of Elections: Phill Lyons announced that the new board members: George Guthrie, Maura Murphy, and Ruth Marinshaw.

 

Manager of the Year:  Gretchen McCoy, Business Manager, Family Support Network, was presented the award for Manager of the Year. Gretchen received the award in the presence of colleagues and friends who came especially as guests to this meeting.

 

Chancellor’s Task Force for a Better Workplace: Nancy Dickinson, facilitator for the task force, reviewed the formation and activities of the task force. She distributed a handout with short, medium, and long-term goals and briefly explained the goals. Peter DeSaix, Task Force Chair and UMA Vice President, explained the work of the Monitoring Committee, a committee chaired by the Employee Forum Chair, Tommy Griffin, and made up of task force chairs.  Each person assigned a task was to report on that task to the Monitoring Committee by    May 15.  Most reports have been submitted. The Monitoring Committee is reviewing the proposals to make sure that the information in the proposal responded to the stated task.  The Monitoring Committee envisions its role as if responsible to a still existing task force.  However, the Monitoring Committee is still defining its role and working with others to determine what other steps it or others will take in response to the Task Force Report.

 

Audit Committee Report: Rebecca Mabe reported she, Jean Estrada, and Sharon Grayden reviewed the books and all was consistent with the treasurer’s report.

 

Treasurer’s report:  In place of the President, Peter DeSaix gave the treasurer’s report.

 

President’s report:  Phill Lyons especially cited the work Kathleen Dulaney had done in improving the web site. Phill also thanked other board members for their participation and honored those who had served their full terms: Fran Allegri, Jo Bell, and Ruth Marinshaw.

 

Membership Report:  Libby reported that membership was generally on a small but steady incline. We have 192 active members, 3 honorary members and 15 retired members. 

 

Door prizes:  Before and after the task force discussion, Jan Blue arranged for three door prizes: a T-Shirt from Roy Williams, a case for calling cards, and a USB data key.

 

Next UMA meeting: The next UMA meeting with be a book discussion with Provost Robert Shelton, June 29, 2:30 Hyde Hall on America at the Crossroads: The Future of the Public University in America by James Dudersadt and Ferris Womack. Ferris Womack, who used to be at UNC, may be in town to join the discussion.
