Subject: Back in business Date: Mon, 9 Sep 1996 12:20:16 -0400 (EDT) From: Sally Greene To: Sarah Greene Momma, we spent the night in a motel in town last night. At 5 p.m. the power company still was saying they were in our neighborhood but they were under instructions not to promise when we'd be back up! So we bailed out. I think the power did come back on somewhere around 9:00 last night because that's when we finally got our answering machine to respond to our calls. We were luckier than Karen and Joe in Chapel Hill. I just had e-mail from her. They are still without power or phone, and a tree fell across the stairs that go up to their second-story apartment! The worst chore here is going to be cleaning out the refrigerator; I don't think there's anything salvageable except maybe the pesto in the freezer, which thawed and then refroze into big lumps. But I"m avoiding that with all the other work I'm behind on. And I"m enjoying a hot cup of coffee. Electricity--the staff of life!
