1. From Ned Brooks (servant leadership):
Leadership in Organizations (5th ed.),
Gary Yukl, Prentice-Hall, 2002. This is the
best researched, most thorough and thoughtful book on leadership I've come across.
It's kinda heavy slogging at times, but
worth it.
The Future of Leadership; edited by
Warren Bennis, Gretchen Spreitzer,
and Thomas Cummings; Jossey-Bass, 2001. This is
a well organized bunch of essays and opinion pieces by notable leaders and students
of leadership.
Leadership for Innovation; edited by
Frances Hesselbein, Marshall Goldsmith, and Iain
Somerville for the Drucker Foundation; Jossey-Bass, 2002. Another
compilation of essays. None of these four books deals
expressly with servant leadership, but this
one comes closest in terms of how leaders get and serve others to achieve
innovation.
Eyewitness to Power,
David Gergen, Touchstone (Simon & Schuster), 2001.
A fascinating look at the highest levels of leadership from Gergen's experiences as advisor to Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and
Clinton. His seven lessons are right on target.
